So this CES2014 was all about “wearables” which seemed to be geared towards humans like me and you (assuming you are human…) with very little regard for the other loves in our our lives. For instance, Sony is working on a super high tech wig. That could be cool, I guess, but it’s not for me. To be frank, I don’t want to wear any of them. I already tote around my iPhone everywhere I go all the time, and that’s just about as much as I can handle. Besides, I like it that way. Just one thing I need to bring in addition to my car keys and a wad of cash, makes it hard to forget when you only have a few things to grab on the way out the door.
I know what you’re thinking, “Aaron you’ve got to be kidding me! Have you seen the new Fuel Band colors? So good! A must wear!” You may be right, I do like that rose gold clasp but I just don’t want that thing on my wrist all the time. It’s impossible to get my coat on with it on my wrist and I look like a goober when I go somewhere fancy with this big plastic digital watch thing.
So anyway, this has got me thinking — if not for me, then who? The answer: my dog Zoey.

CES 2014 was just as crazy and chaotic as we expected, with over 150,000 tech enthusiasts converging in Las Vegas thirsty to see the newest gadgets in the world of consumer electronics. As we suspected, this year’s floor was dominated by screens of all sizes, and connected devices aka the “Internet of Things.” From curved UHD TVs to smartwatches and fitness trackers, you couldn’t walk very far along the showroom without seeing them.
During the first 2 days of the show, we took some time away from meetings to check out first hand some of these shiny toys, here’s a recap of what we saw.
As Thanksgiving is upon us, Ratio has plenty to be thankful for. Just earlier this year in July, Ratio Interactive and Cypress merged and we have witnessed first-hand how the sum of two parts can become something greater than ever possible by themselves.
As we’ve grown, we also recognize the opportunity to give back to the wonderful community that both our companies were started in. Buzzbee and Ratio are hosting a donation drive to raise coats, blankets, gloves, hats and scarves benefiting Wellspring Family Services and its “Giving Together” holiday campaign.

Local technology startup BooksILove has teamed up with local booksellers to incentivize readers to shop local on Small Business Saturday – and beyond.
On November 30, notable authors will sell books in bookstores all over Seattle. Award winning poet, author, and filmmaker Sherman Alexie’s brilliant idea of having authors work as volunteers that day at independent bookstores has taken hold in our community.
One local tech startup BooksILove is helping the effort with a campaign that coincides with the launch of their new mobile book recommendation app. “If a customer goes into a participating bookstore and shows a recommendation they’ve received from a friend via the BooksILove iPhone app, they receive $1 dollar off any book,” according to CEO Elizabeth Dimarco.

Ratio is proud to announce its ranking of 3rd on the 2013 Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) Largest Web Developers List. Ratio is not new to the PSBJ Largest Web Developers List, but this is the first time it has made the top 3 and this is not in small part due to its recent merger that occurred in July of 2013. The merger brought Ratio Interactive together with Cypress, a digital agency that created video apps for media brands on mobile platforms and gaming consoles. Together the firms formed Ratio, the largest independent multi-screen agency on the West Coast. In 2012, Cypress and Ratio Interactive both made the PSBJ Largest Web Development Firms list in 10th and 9th place respectively.

I had the opportunity this week to represent Ratio at Digital Hollywood, speaking on a panel about the Future of Over the Top Video (OTT) with other fantastic panelists from IBM Global Services, Qualcomm, United Future and Fischer Media. The topic of the panel was the adoption and future of Over the Top video delivery – essentially delivering video over broadband – and the major traction it is gaining across the globe. Because of this, cable companies and MVPDs are experiencing diminishing growth as OTT options are becoming more prevalent. Cord cutting (quitting your cable or DIRECTV) is happening at an alarming rate due to the large amount of quality options available on services like Netflix, AppleTV, Hulu and others.
