Seattle Times: award winning journalism, re-imagined for mobile

Revitalizing the digital experience

As a news media company, The Seattle Times delivers thoughtful, independent news and information to readers across the Northwest, including all of us at Ratio. With mobile adoption at an all-time high, we wanted to help The Seattle Times set new benchmarks for delivering award-winning content on this growing platform.

Leveraging Universal Apps

Ratio worked with The Seattle Times to conceive a vision and strategy for Windows mobile users. Then, we delivered a compelling experience that put their content at center stage. This was one of the first Windows Phone 8.1 apps created for a major publisher. Our development team also delivered a Universal App, with shared code across tablet and phone. The shared code helped us speed development and optimize the development process.

A true lighthouse experience

Upon release, Microsoft handpicked The Seattle Times apps as a best-of-breed Windows mobile experience. The apps were nominated for Microsoft’s Lighthouse Program, which offers enhanced exposure and marketing opportunities for The Seattle Times. David Catzel, Microsoft Senior Strategic Platform Advisor, stated “You have delivered truly superior apps in an incredibly tight time frame in a totally competent, stress-free way … and on the very latest Microsoft Universal App Platform as well.”
